Why ASIB compliance is not optional
The Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau sets the standard for sprinkler design and installation in South Africa, and most insurers will not underwrite a sprinklered risk unless the installation carries ASIB approval. A system installed outside those rules can leave a building both non-compliant and uninsured — a problem usually discovered at the worst possible moment.

Every system is engineered to the specific risk of the building rather than fitted from a catalogue — occupancy classification, water supply, hazard category and storage arrangement all change the design.

Alterations, upgrades and the buildings that changed around their system
Most sprinkler problems we are called to are not failures of the original installation. They are the result of a building that has been reconfigured — racking raised, walls moved, a mezzanine added, occupancy changed — while the sprinkler layout stayed where it was. The system is intact and, for the building as it now stands, no longer adequate.
We carry out alterations and upgrades to bring existing installations back into compliance, and we do the plumbing ourselves. Our teams include qualified fire technicians, plumbers and fitters on our own payroll, so a sprinkler alteration does not turn into a scheduling exercise between three contractors.
24-hour emergency call-out
A sprinkler system that has operated, been damaged, or been isolated is a building without fire cover until it is back in service. Our sprinkler division runs a 24-hour emergency call-out for exactly that situation.

In practice, yes. What is the difference between a sprinkler system and a deluge system?
A standard sprinkler system uses closed heads that open individually when heat reaches them, so only the sprinklers over the fire operate. A deluge or drencher system uses open heads and discharges across the whole protected area at once when triggered — used where fire would spread very rapidly, such as high-hazard or flammable-liquid areas.
Can you alter an existing sprinkler system rather than replace it?
Usually. Most systems we are called to are sound but no longer match the building around them after racking, walls or occupancy changed. We carry out alterations and upgrades to bring the installation back into compliance, including the plumbing work, using our own fire technicians, plumbers and fitters.
Do you offer emergency sprinkler repairs?
Yes. Our sprinkler division operates a 24-hour emergency call-out, because a system that has discharged, been damaged or been isolated leaves the building without fire cover until it is restored.
What else does the sprinkler division cover?
